Amphibians have permiable skin. They remind us we are not just affected by but composed of our surroundings. A good thing for me to remember next time I decide to hook my ego up to my brain and go for a ride.

I am a writer. When people ask me what I write, I generally say essays and comics, but really, I do lots and lots of practice writing, Natalie Goldberg style. I should say I write crap mostly, and sometimes some essays and stories worth illustrating fall out.

So that’s what I am. Other stuff I do includes playing the cello, working at a local independent natural foods store, writing for Tacoma’s gay and lesbian resource center, trying to bike to work more than I drive, collecting medicinal herbs and trying to get my friends to take them, (c’mon, a little burdock never hurt anyone …) experiments with wild fermentation, especially raw sauerkraut and meads, zen meditation, and tai chi.
